During his brief film career, Zbigniew Cybulski was known as "The Polish James Dean" because he—with his dark glasses and angry demeanor—symbolized the feelings of young Poles trying to deal with their tumultuous post-WW II world. Cybulski made his film debut alongside Roman Polanski in Wajda's A Generation in 1954. Soon afterward, Cybulski became one of Poland's most popular, versatile stars until his accidental death aboard a train in 1967. The following year, Wajda made Everything for Sale as a highly fictionalized tribute to Cybulski. |
