Dutch-born actress Sylvia Kristel began her career as a model in Amsterdam, eventually winning the Miss TV Europe Contest. Kristel soon became an actress as well, and found a niche for herself in the burgeoning sexual revolution happening in European cinema. She would become an icon for the presence and beauty she brought to erotic classics like the Emmanuelle series and the screen adaptation of Lady Chatterly's Lover, blending emotional storytelling with frank sexuality. Kristel eventually retired from acting. She passed away in 2012 at the age of 60 after a battle with cancer.
