Screenwriter and producer Sy Bartlett, originally Sacha Baraniev, was born in Russia but raised in the U.S. from the age of four. Before coming to Hollywood in the early 1930s, Bartlett worked as a journalist. As a script writer, he worked alone or with others and was responsible for many original scripts and for literary adaptations. He and actor Gregory Peck co-founded Melville Productions in 1956.
