A popular silent child actor (1920-1924), Stanley Goethals was "That Kid Across the Hall," softening the steely hearts of criminals Priscilla Dean and Wheeler Oakman in Universal's Outside the Law (1921), a fine crime drama that also featured Lon Chaney in yet another of his Chinese impersonations. Goethals and Chaney were re-teamed for The Trap (1922), where Chaney takes in a penniless Goethals when the boy's father (Alan Hale) is shipped off to prison. Roles suddenly dried up in 1924 and Goethals disappeared from view. In adulthood, he became the property manager of the Los Angeles Athletic Club and was for a time president of the famous Riviera Golf and Country Club. According to his son, Michael, Goethals rarely if ever spoke about his long-ago screen career.
