biography
A member of D.W. Griffith's stock company from 1919-1923, comedian Porter Strong almost always appeared in blackface (e.g., A Romance of Happy Valley, 1919, One Exciting Night, 1922). Strong's demise in 1923 hit Griffith hard, the sudden deaths of Bobby Harron and Clarine Seymour having already decimated the once robust stock company.
