biography
A British stage and screen actress who had toured extensively with the legendary Cyril Maude in The Yellow Jacket, Peggy Hyland (née Gladys Hutchinson) became popular in Hollywood films of the mid-'10s, often appearing in old-fashioned blood-and-thunder melodramas. She was, for example, kidnapped by a gang of fiendish buccaneers in Peg of the Pirates (1918) and played a Gypsy fortune teller who is really a member of the social elite in Merry-Go-Round (1919). Like most of the early screen stars, Hyland's career waned in the 1920s.
