Paul Gerard (sometimes spelled "Girard") Smith was a stage actor and playwright (Heads Up) before his film-acting debut in 1917's The Mysterious Miss Terry. Smith began the scriptwriting phase of his career with Buster Keaton's Battling Butler. From 1929 through 1933, he was under contract to Paramount, then freelanced, reuniting with Keaton on the 1937 two-reeler Love Nest on Wheels. Paul Gerard Smith toted up credits with Universal, RKO, Hal Roach, and Pine-Thomas productions until his retirement from films in 1947.
