Screenwriter Jacques Companeez was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and first worked as an engineer before moving to Berlin and joining the film industry in 1931. Five years later he began a successful career writing screenplays in France. During the Nazi Occupation, Companeez went into hiding and wrote many scripts for which he received no credit. His daughter is noted director and screenwriter Nina Companeez.
