Biography by AllMovie

Director Jutta Brueckner is a member of the New German Cinema movement. She is recognized for her ability to realistically present common experiences among women. Prior to becoming a filmmaker, she studied political science, philosophy, and history. She had always loved to write, but was dissatisfied with it as a means for completely expressing the female experience. To her, film offered a more intense way of allowing women to identify with the stories; and so, with no formal cinematic training she began writing screenplays. Many of her stories, such as her second film Hungerjahre (1979), are autobiographical and are aimed at women in specific social groups with a special focus upon the frequently supressed issues that modern women face daily, such as those portrayed in her 1987 film Ein Blick - und die Liebe bricht aus, a series of vignettes examining feminine desire, lust, self-denigration, and aggression.
