An important character actor of the late 1910s, gray-haired George Berrell played one of The Three Godfathers (1916) and was Sweetwater Sims in John Ford's first feature film, the still extant Straight Shootin' (1917). A former leading man for stage diva Mary Anderson, Berrell would remain a fixture in Westerns through 1927, usually playing grizzled old-timers.
