Actress turned writer/director Marianna Palka rose to prominence out of the indie film community; a veteran of the Atlantic Theater Company in Manhattan, Palka participated on-screen in such low-profile projects as Bryce Dallas Howard's debut directorial short Orchids (2006), the online short Betty File 43, and conceptual artist Brock Enright's experimental film Came. Palka emerged as a quadruple threat in 2007 as producer, director, screenwriter, and star of the way-offbeat Good Dick, the saga of an onanistic female porno watcher who draws the romantic obsession of a Los Angeles video store clerk (Jason Ritter) and falls into a most unhealthy relationship with him as he tries to break through her icy exterior.
