  • Started work as an apprentice to director Gil Portes; they co-wrote the film Mga Munting Tinig (2003), which was honored as the Best Picture at the Star, FAMAS and Urian awards. It also won Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best Director Awards at the Palm Beach International Film Festival.
  • Made his directorial debut with the movie Donsol (2006) and won special jury prizes at the Asian Marine Film Festival in Japan and the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival in the United States.
  • Donsol (2006) was also Philippines' official submission to the 2007 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
  • Directed Death March (2013), which was screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival under the Un Certain Regard section.
