Lottie Lyell and her partner Raymond Longford are responsible for making 28 Australian silent films before tuberculosis took her life in 1925. Their first commercial successes include The Fatal Wedding and The Romantic Story of Margaret Catchpole; both are from 1911. Prior to becoming a filmmaker, Lyell pursued an acting career on the stage.
