Biography by AllMovie

Although Norbert Schultze scored more than 50 films and found success after writing the mournful ballad "Lili Marleen," his affiliation with the Nazi party would ultimately overshadow an otherwise enduring and impressive career. Born in Braunschweig, Germany, in 1911, Schultze received his early education in Cologne and Munich before taking a position in Heidelberg as a theater music director. Though "Lilli Marleen" scored little success when originally released in 1938, a subsequent broadcast from Belgrade three years later struck a chord with both Axis and Allied soldiers. Schultze also composed tunes for numerous children's musicals. He died October 14, 2002, in Bad Toelz, Germany.
