American screenwriter, novelist, playwright Michael Blankfort first worked as a college professor at Bowdoin, Princeton and then as a psychologist at the state prison in New Jersey. In 1933, he left that job and began writing, directing and producing Broadway plays; he later became a prolific writer of short stories and novels--some of those novels were adapted into films. Blankfort began writing original screenplays during the late 1930s. In the late 1960s, he served as President of the Writers Guild of the America West. From 1969-71 he served as a governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
