Biography by AllMovie

Brunette and dimpled, Marie Doro came to films from the Broadway stage in 1915 as one of producer Adolph Zukor's Famous Players. Like most of the players, Doro's time in the sun proved brief and little of her work survives. She played Oliver Twist at the age of 25 in 1916 (with Hobart Bosworth as Bill Sykes and Tully Marshall as Fagin) and can be seen in Lost and Found from the following year. In a time when very young teenagers (Mary Miles Minter, Lucille Ricksen) played leading ladies, Doro was a case of too little, too late, and she left America for Europe. Following a couple of Italian films and Sally Bishopin the U.K. in 1924, Doro disappeared from radar. Her death in 1956 was attributed to a heart ailment.
