An articulate speaker who became a familiar face during her tenure as a youthful voice on ABC's The View, Lisa Ling started out as a bright young student in her native California. Her broadcast career began early, when she was picked to help host a nationally syndicated teen news magazine show at the age of 18. She eventually attended the University of South Carolina. In 1999, she joined the round-table talk show The View, representing a young perspective among her older co-hosts. She stayed with the show until 2002, and in 2005 she began hosting National Geographic Ultimate Explorer. That same year, she became a special correspondent for The Oprah Winfrey Show, completing and presenting in-depth investigative reports on such issues as child trafficking in Ghana and the Virginia Tech shooting.
