One of Australia's most prominent screenwriters, Laura Jones specializes in adapting literary classics to the big screen. Her first screenplay, High Tide (1988), was directed by Gillian Armstrong and earned Jones considerable critical acclaim, as well as the New South Wales Premier's Prize. Jones received the award a second time for penning the screenplay to Jane Campion's adaptation of Janet Frame's memoirs, An Angel at My Table (1990). Jones again worked with Campion on the script for The Portrait of a Lady (1993). In addition to her film work, Jones has written non-literature based programs for television. In 1997, she reteamed with Armstrong to script an adaptation of Peter Carey's novel Oscar & Lucinda in 1997.
