Biography by AllMovie

Famous for his popularity as a teen singing idol, Justin Bieber was born in Stratford, Ontario, on March 1, 1994. He took an interest in music at a young age, learning to play various instruments like the piano and trumpet. He also enjoyed singing, and in the late 2000s began posting videos of his vocal performances on YouTube. His talent was soon discovered by Scooter Braun, former marketing executive for So So Def, who listened to Bieber perform and helped him record some demos. Bieber was only 13 when he was eventually presented to R&B star Usher, who took an interest in the young talent. Bieber was signed to a major record deal on Island Records in 2008, which released his debut album, My World, the next year. The singer's fame was instant, and he garnered legions of fans, many of whom were preteen girls, also known as "'tweens." He released his solo effort, My World 2.0 in 2010, and later that year, appeared on the crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In 2011, Bieber made an even bigger appearance on-screen when his full-length 3D concert documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never was released to theaters. The movie proved to be a major hit, grossing over $30 million its opening weekend. Also in 2011 Bieber enjoyed his first high-profile relationship with Disney star Selena Gomez.
