French chanteuse of the late '50s, actress and director Juliet Berto was a leading lady who made a big splash in the '60s by appearing in a string of films by Jean Luc Godard that began with Deux ou Trois Choses Que Je Sais d'Elle (Two or Three Things I Know About Her) in 1966. Other notable directors for whom she worked include Jacques Rivette and Alain Tanner. Berto also wrote the occasional screenplay. In 1981, she made her directorial debut with Neige (Snow). Berto died of cancer at the age of 42.
