Though he garnered an Emmy for his work on such daytime television staples as All My Children, costume designer Jonathan Bixby was best known for his longtime stage work, in addition to founding New York's Drama Dept.
Born in Media, PA, educated at New York's Lester Polikoff School of Set and Costume Design, Bixby, along with playwright Douglas Carter, later founded the Drama Dept., serving as costume designer on a majority of the theater's productions. Creating costumes for such regional theater companies as the Geffen Playhouse and McCarter Theater in addition to others, Bixby also designed the costumes for the international Cirque Ingenieux in addition to his work with numerous touring companies of major Broadway shows.
On April 20, 2001 at the age of 41, Jonathan Bixby died of complications from colon cancer at the Cabrini Hospice of New York City.
