A stunt man and bit player from Oregon, John Tyke (born Tyacke) played in scores of low-budget Westerns, hardly ever receiving onscreen billing. In films as far back as 1920, Tyke's career ended abruptly on February 23, 1940, when he was shot and killed by fellow bit-player Blackjack Ward while both were waiting to be picked up for a day's work at the corner of Gower St. and Sunset Boulevard, the famous Gower Gulch.
