biography
British director John Dexter's debut feature remains his best-known film The Virgin Soldiers(1969), the satire on life in the British army. Dexter began as a stage actor who eventually turned to producing and directing shows for repertory companies. He began directing major productions in London and New York. One of his British National Theatre Productions of Othello, starring Sir Laurence Olivier, was filmed and released as a theatrical feature by Stuart Burge.
