biography
Director Ilya Frez is best known in Russia for his well-wrought and popular children's films. During the early '30s, Frez earned degrees in film and direction at Leningrad's Theatrical Institute. Between 1948 and 1953, Frez worked at the Popular Science Film Studio in Kiev and Moscow. After that, Frez made his permanent home with the Central Studio of Films for Children and Youth (aka the Gorky Film Studio) in Moscow.
