The earliest credit found for Austrian cinematographer Gunther Krampf is the 1922 German horror classic Nosferatu. Krampf was an assistant on that project, later graduating to co-photographer of such major Teutonic films as The Student of Prague (1926) and full director of photography for G.W. Pabst's Pandora's Box (1929), among others. He resettled in England in 1932, where he lensed several important British releases, among them Transatlantic Tunnel (1935) and Fame is the Spur (1946). After retiring in 1952, Gunther Krampf dropped completely from sight; the exact date of his death is still clouded in obscurity.
