biography
The first wife of matinee idol James Kirkwood, brunette Gertrude Robinson was a member of the famous Biograph stock company (1909-1914), playing everything from Indian maidens to society belles. A professional actress at the tender age of four, Gertrude had appeared on stage in A Bonnie Briar Bush, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Rip Van Winkle, and Ben Hur (with William S. Hart and Dustin Farnum) prior to entering films. Her career lasted through the mid-'20s.
