Art director Georges Wakhevitch was born in Odessa, Russia, but raised in Paris. He entered French films as an assistant to Lazare Meerson in the late '20s. Prior to that he had studied painting. During his career, Wakhevitch worked on many important films for some of France's most prominent directors. In addition to working in films, Wakhevitch went on to design sets and costumes for theater, ballet, and the opera.
