biography
Actress Fredi Washington may best be remembered for her wrenching portrayal of a light-skinned black girl who tries to pass for white so she can be a nightclub singer in the weepy melodrama Imitation of Life (1934). Washington also appeared in One Mile from Heaven (1937) and a few other films.
