Frederic Rossif was known for making compilation films that recorded some of the most important historical events in mid-20th century Europe. He started out with the Cinémathèque Française. During the '50s, he was a television director. Among his best-known work is his look at the Spanish Civil War in To Die in Madrid (1962) and Revolution d'Octobre (1967), a look at the Russian Revolution that contained footage from Vertov's 1929 documentary Man With a Movie Camera.
