Though she only appeared in a couple of feature films, former Ziegfeld girl Ethel Meglin made a great contribution to Hollywood via the Ethel Meglin Dance Studios, her renowned school of performing arts, the place where such superstars as Shirley Temple, Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, and others learned to sing, dance, and act. Meglin opened her first studio in Glendale, CA. She formed her brightest students into "the Meglin Kiddies." The troupe of tykes performed on radio and appeared in films such as An American in Paris (1951). During the '50s, the Meglin Kiddies even had their own television show. Meglin eventually turned the studios into a franchise and had over 52 branches nationwide. The chain folded in 1962 after Meglin retired.
