biography
American filmmaker and screenwriter Emmett J. Flynn began his film career as a 15-year-old actor. Later he became assistant director on numerous Mary Pickford vehicles. He became a full-fledged director in 1918 and primarily worked for Fox where he helmed many important silent films featuring such stars as Rudolph Valentino and John Gilbert. With the advent of sound, Flynn retired. He died at the age of 45.
