Known to Oprah fans simply as Dr. Oz, Mehmet Oz was born in Ohio, though he later grew up in Delaware. After completing undergrad at Harvard, Oz attended medical school at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and The Wharton School, where he got both his M.D. and an MBA. He would go on to become a professor of cardiac surgery at Columbia University, director of the Heart Assist Device Program, a researcher in heart replacement surgery, the founder of the HealthCorps nonprofit, and an author of several books on health and wellness.

Oz has also appeared on numerous TV shows that utilize his expertise as a doctor. In addition to numerous informational programs on the Discovery Health Channel, like Second Opinion with Dr. Oz and You: On a Diet, Oz became a regular guest on the Oprah Winfrey show, appearing several times to dispense information and advice.
