Dick Cathcart on AllMovie

Jazz trumpeter Dick Cathcart was a close friend of actor/producer Jack Webb and played music on Webb's radio and television series Dragnet. He made his film debut as an actor in Webb's first film version of the popular police drama in 1954. He then played a cornetist in Webb's Pete Kelly's Blues (1955). They became friends while serving in the military during WWII. In addition to occasionally acting, Cathcart played with several big band leaders, such as Ray McKinley and Bob Crosby. He also was a member of various MGM studio bands.
