Canadian leading lady Claire Adams made her first movie appearance at the age of 18. She played opposite virtually everyone, from western hero Tom Mix to chalk-faced silent comedian Larry Semon. Her most memorable role was as the undercover detective who "humanizes" crippled crime boss Lon Chaney Sr. in The Penalty (1920). Claire Adams retired from films in 1927, after which she moved to Australia where she died at 78.
