Very active at Universal in the 1910s, brunette American silent screen actress Cleo Madison usually played rather robust heroines, notably in the serials Trey of Hearts (1914) and The Great Radium Mystery (1919). Madison was one of several studio contract actresses given the opportunity to also go behind the camera, in her case as writer, producer, and even director. Eleanor's Catch (1916), in which she also starred, survives and, if nothing else, proves that Madison was just as capable as her male counterparts of delivering the studio's trademark, fast-paced, no-nonsense programmers, on time and within the limited budget. Madison's screen career lasted until 1924.
