A veteran stage actor and the owner of a Washington, D.C., interior decorating business, white-haired Calvert Carter entered films in 1914. Often seen as major-domos, headwaiters, and butlers, Carter is best remembered today for playing the hotel proprietor in the still extant Wild and Wooly (1917) and as Mr. Gollaher in Abraham Lincoln. His death was attributed to a heart ailment.
