Biography by AllMovie

American screenwriter C. Gardner Sullivan first worked as a newspaper reporter and feature writer before he began writing a few scripts in 1911. He became a full-time screenwriter for Thomas H. Ince studios the following year; soon he was promoted to head of the scenario department. His favorite topics were based on U.S. history, and Sullivan, with his realistic scripts for the pictures of William S. Hart, can be considered one of the fathers of the American Western. Sullivan began producing films for DeMille in the mid-'20s; he also produced films for his own company. Sullivan remained a major Hollywood screenwriter until the end of the 1930s. He continued to occasionally write scripts until the end of the 1950s.
