biography
Russian actor and sometime director Boris Babochkin worked for many years in the Leningrad Dramatic Theater before making his feature film debut playing small parts in 1927. In 1931, he gained international renown for playing the lead in the landmark Soviet film Chapayev(1934). Following this film, Babochkin appeared periodically in other films through the 1950s. Unfortunately, he was never able to win the acclaim he had for that one film.
