American screenwriter Arnold Belgard began amassing credits in 1934, when he was assigned to oversee continuity for Columbia's The Captain Hates the Sea. Belgard began his long association with Hal Roach Studios in 1938, collaborating with James Parrott, Felix Adler, Harry Langdon and Charles Rogers on the screenplay and story of Laurel and Hardy's Block-Heads. He went on to co-script such Hal Roach productions as Zenobia (1939) and Road Show (1941), then labored on several of the producer's 45-minute "streamliners" of the early 1940s. When Roach returned to active production after the war, he re-hired Belgard as scripter of the full-color feature The Fabulous Joe. Belgard's post-Roach credits include the 1950 adventure Tarzan and the Slave Girl. In 1959, Arnold Belgard co-directed the Africa-based drama East of Kilimanjaro, and in 1964 he wrote and narrated the documentary feature The Mighty Jungle.
