Born in Vilno, Russia (now Vilniuse, Lithuania), director Abram Room is best known for the psychological drama Bed and Sofa (Third Meschanskaya) (1927). Once a dentist, a journalist, and an actor and director on-stage, Room turned to films in 1924 after training under Lev Kuleshov at the State Film School. His career as a film director continued through the early '70s.
